Every day, we are faced with a choice on how to live out each moment. Choosing gratefulness has the capacity to alter the trajectory of our lives. This can lead us to mental breakthroughs, bring joy, and triumph over our anxiety and depression - we are verified by it. - Tye Dutcher
Gratefulness, appreciation, and thankfulness are some common ways of expressing one of the most important contributors to a better life ~ Gratitude
Gratitude is something we are told to value and showcase from an early age by the positive influences in our lives. Often parents and teachers instruct kids to say thank you and show appreciation for the things they were given, but otherwise, people don’t make a huge effort to emphasize and teach gratitude on a regular basis. I think that’s a mistake - and there are so many ways we can express gratitude for the more basic and extremely valuable aspects of our lives. Today, I would like to share with you some ways that I practice gratitude daily.
What is gratitude, and why is it important to daily life?
Gratitude changes your focus from what you don’t have to what you do have. Gratitude changes your perception. Your perception changes your existence. - Steve Harvey
Gratitude is the ability to recognize and appreciate the good in life, to acknowledge the sources of that goodness, and to express thankfulness and appreciation for these positive moments.
It involves being aware of and thankful for the positive actions, kindness, and generosity of others, as well as the beauty and wonder of the world around us. It can be expressed in past, present, or future tense.
You can be thankful for so many things ~ people, places, adventures, food, shelter, safety, careers, God, personal health, moments of joy, living, community, the present moment, technology, and all of the opportunities and pathways to grow that you have earned and been given.
My Daily Gratitude
This morning I woke up and decided to reflect throughout the day on the things I am most grateful for in my life. First, I thought about the fact that I had an off day on a Monday - something that I think most of you would love to have! You were in my thoughts as I smiled and said “thank you” to what I believed would be a good day. I made breakfast and I thought about what I was eating. I was thankful that I had the freshest, most delicious fruit on my plate this morning - mango, raspberries, and blackberries - a few of my favorites! Thank goodness I went to the store and picked them all out so I could be enjoying them at this moment.
As I sat down to work at my desk, I looked over at the pile of books I have been reading and reflected, thankful for the fact that I get to spend so much of my time doing what I love ~ being curious and exploring the most fascinating ways to live a meaningful life. Learning looks different in each of our lives, but I encourage you to say thank you to the things and people who teach you something new every day. Learning, for me, is one of the most beautiful things in life.
The day went on and I went with it. Got all of my work checklist done, met my two exercise goals for the day, managed my friend, family, and business relationships. Started my new goal of doing daily gratitude texts and was inspired to share this initiative with you all.
Daily Gratitude Texts: One Text, Countless Smiles
Here’s how you include a simple practice of daily gratitude into your life:
Daily gratitude texts are a practice where people send short messages to someone in their lives expressing their gratitude for the relationship, their mentorships, or some shared experience that was personally meaningful that they shared. These texts can focus on specific things, actions, or experiences that you are grateful for, such as acts of kindness, support, or moments of joy shared with others. To get started, simply wake up every morning and send out three texts of gratitude to important people in your life. See how they respond and encourage them to do the same.
Here are some examples of daily gratitude texts:
To friends and family: "Hey, just wanted to say thanks for being there when I needed someone to talk to yesterday. Your support means the world to me. Grateful to have you in my life!"
To a coworker: "I appreciate all the hard work you put into our project. Your dedication and attention to detail really helped us excel. Grateful to be part of such a fantastic team!"
To a mentor: "I'm grateful for the time you've invested in mentoring me. Your patience and willingness to share your knowledge have made a great impact on my personal and professional growth."
To a loved one: "I wanted to say how much I appreciate your love and sense of humor. Your jokes and laughter bring so much joy to our relationship. You are a huge source of inspiration and motivation to me.”
These are, of course, just examples and I leave it to you to find people and moments to be thankful for in your lives. Surround yourself with things to be grateful for. Remember ~ Positivity resonates ~ your expression of gratitude can create a cascade of positive emotions, where your thankfulness also makes others more thankful to have you in their lives. Be the light and bring positivity and gratitude wherever you go - people are attracted to good vibes and will want to be around you more. Thank you for reading this post!
