Good Morning! (“Journey of Discipline” generated by ChatGPT)
I would like to invite you all to go on a journey with me. For 75 days I will be embarking on a physical and mental challenge that will test and strengthen my discipline. Do anything for 21 days and you make a habit of it. Do anything for 75 days and show yourself and others that you are determined. In 2023 I attempted the 75 day hard challenge and failed. I was on day 27 when I went on vacation in Cancun. Suffice it to say I did not meet the rules you will see below. However I am back and ready to go.
The Los Angeles marathon is in 68 days and I will be running it! A friend of mine challenged me to run it with him and I have been regularly training via short runs over the past few months. As the date is approaching, it’s time to kick it up a gear! For the next two months I will be running, lifting, eating healthy, and challenging myself intellectually. If you think you have what it takes, I encourage you to follow my journey and create your own 75 days of discipline challenge.
Day One of the 75 Hard
In 2019, entrepreneur Andy Frisella introduced the 75 Hard Challenge, a transformational program meant to build mental toughness. For 75 days challengers must follow a series of rules that encompass mental, emotional, and physical discipline. Although you may tailor the challenge to fit your abilities, I will be tracking and journaling the following:
Follow a diet. While it can be a diet of your choosing, the diet must be a structured eating plan with the goal of physical improvement. No alcohol or meals outside your chosen diet are allowed. Here are some of my diet constraints:
No more than 2 cups of coffee
No unnecessary snacking or sweets
Track my food intake in the myfitnesspal app
More than 3 servings of fruits and vegetables daily
Limit bread and unnecessary carbs
Limit processed food
Complete two 45-minute workouts, one of which must be outdoors.
Furthermore, for me, one must be a run or walk to progress towards my marathon goal
Take a progress picture.
Drink 1 gallon of water.
Read 10 pages of a nonfiction book.
The two books I am starting with are The Power of Now by Eckhard Tolle and Harvard Business Review’s Guide to Financial Basics for Managers
Please feel free to comment with any questions, suggestions, or new ideas!
A Healthy Lunch Idea
Today Maddie and I made a healthy lunch before we left for work so I thought I would share it with anyone who has trouble planning healthy meals. Essentially, it is a balsamic vegetable salad that is low calorie and nutrient packed! Takes about 30 minutes to prepare and tastes delicious. In prepare, split, and mix the following ingredients into three lunch dishes:
½ pint of tomatoes, 1 cucumber, 1 can of chickpeas, ½ red onion, 1 avocado, 3oz of Feta, 3tbs of balsamic vinegar, 1 squeezed lemon, salt and pepper, and Italian seasoning
My Worldview Monday
You have to make it happen -- the power is in your hands to become who you want to be
I am someone who thrives with opportunities and responsibilities. I like to take on challenges and personal development is one of my main commitments. However, like many others, I sometimes struggle with motivation, discipline, and time management. I pay attention to these three characteristics when I engage in personal challenges like the 75 Day hard. Taking on this challenge is an ode to my commitment to be more motivated, disciplined, and timely.
No one else can do it for you. It’s time to take responsibility for who you are and who you want to be. I am at least. You can’t make others into who they aren’t but you can provide them with inspiration and encouraging examples of a better way. That’s what I hope to do through my work and I hope others will see that as well. Regardless, I believe that you can accomplish great things. But first, it’s time to get serious.
